Virtual Writing for Work Workshop

High-quality written communication is critical to successful business outcomes. You’ll identify your signature patterns, master the challenge of communicating technical information for non-specialists and learn how to write engaging, precise text across a range of formats.

This workshop is split into four 1.5-hour online sessions across four days:
Mon June 17, 9am–10.30am
Tue, June 18, 9am– 10.30am
Wed, June 19, 9am–10.30am
Thu, June 20, 9am–10.30am

$300 + GST

Participant numbers will be capped at ten to ensure everyone gets plenty of one-to-one support from Morag during each online session.

You’ll learn how to

  • Use audience analysis to choose the most effective writing style and medium

  • Build accurate, easy-to-understand sentences

  • Guide your reader and strengthen your message

  • Build clarity and precision in your writing

  • Communicate technical information to non-specialist readers

  • Create cohesion, logic and flow across a range of text types


You’ll be introduced to

  • N.Z.’s Plain Language Law and how it affects you

  • The work of leading authorities on language and the mind

  • Insights from world-leading writing experts

  • The latest research from reading and literacy specialists

What will happen during the four online sessions?

  • Morag will lead you through tasks designed to build your skill, efficiency, and confidence when writing for work.

  • You'll be given two comprehensive pdf student workbooks full of exemplars, tips, and advice from communication experts.

  • Each online session will be active. You'll apply what you learn directly to your workplace writing.

  • You'll get individual help and go at a pace that suits you.

  • You won’t be put on the spot or asked to share your work unless you choose to.


What should I have ready for each session?

  • Have a Word doc ready with the writing you want to work on. You can bring emails, memos, letters, bids, policies or reports to this workshop.

  • You’ll apply what you learn directly to your workplace writing during each online session.


Once you’ve registered for the workshop

  • You’ll receive a welcome email with pre-course reading and viewing tasks.

  • You’ll receive a Teams invite from Morag for the four online sessions.

  • You’ll be invited to send samples of your workplace writing to Morag for a pre-course assessment. Your writing samples will be kept strictly confidential.

Your Instructor

Morag MacTaggart

Morag has coached and trained workplace writers from all spheres, from senior executives to staff that spend most of their day in the field. She has worked alongside large corporates, local and regional government, not for profits, and small businesses.
With over twenty-five years’ English teaching experience, Morag brings an extensive understanding of the best ways to foster active learning. Her lively approach coupled with plenty of laughter builds a constructive learning environment. From here, new skill acquisition and, most importantly, lasting change can take place.
